Surgical Procedure Documentation
Challenge
Mayo Clinic needed to capture surgical procedures in 4K for medical education, research, and documentation while maintaining HIPAA compliance and integrating with existing OR infrastructure without disrupting surgical workflows.
Solution
Deployed HIPAA-compliant 4-channel recording systems in 12 operating rooms with integration to surgical cameras, vital monitors, and OR audio. Implemented secure storage with granular access controls and automatic PHI redaction capabilities.
Results
Over 1,500 procedures documented in the first year, creating an invaluable teaching library. Surgical residents report 40% faster skill acquisition through video review. Research team has published 8 papers using the recorded data.
"This system has revolutionized our surgical education program. Residents can review procedures frame-by-frame, and we can share anonymized cases with medical schools worldwide. The quality and security are exactly what we needed."
